COMMUNITY CONNECTION

Over a million Canadians come through our doors every day, not just because you love our food, but because we share a community connection.

Caring for Canadian communities is part of our DNA. We’re there for Canadians when they need us most.

McDonald’s Canada and its independent franchisees remain committed to serving our guests, employees and the communities where we operate from coast to coast to coast.

Being part of a community means doing things to help each other out. For us, that means supporting programs and initiatives that care for Canadian families in need, help reduce food insecurity and help in times of crisis.

Ronald McDonald House Charities

We’re proud to be the founding and forever partner of Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC), supporting their important work of keeping families of sick children together and close to the medical care they need.

  • Together with our independent franchisees and guests, McDonald’s Canada has raised over $65 million over the last five years (2017-2021) in support of RMHC. This has helped RMHC support more than 100,000 Canadian families with sick children in the last five years (2017-2021). That’s 420,000 overnight stays for over 100,000 families. In other words, 420,000 very important bedtime stories and good night hugs.

  • Together with our independent franchisees and guests, McDonald’s Canada has a goal to donate over $70 million to RMHC over the next five years (2022- 2026). This will help to nearly double the number of bedrooms for families across Canada over the next 10 years (2022-2032). McDonald’s will continue to be there to help RMHC increase the number of rooms they have to support even more families with sick children across Canada.

Community Support and Crisis Response

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, McDonald’s Canada, along with its independent franchisees, came together when our communities needed us most. Here are a few of the things we did to help:

  • Donated more than 325,000 pounds of food for Canadians experiencing food insecurity. In addition, we supported Food Banks Canada, donating more than 800,000 meals over two years (2020-2021).

  • Kept healthcare and emergency service workers fueled with more than 2.7 million free coffees.

  • Donated over 11,000 meals to healthcare, essential and emergency services workers, as well as Ronald McDonald Houses across the country

  • May 2020: Supported the Canadian Red Cross through corporate donations and with more than $1.1 million from #FriesForGood fundraising

  • November 2020: #FriesForRMHC raised over $1.8 million resulting in 11,297 nights for families staying at local Ronald McDonald Houses or Ronald McDonald Family Rooms.

  • Distributed 40 million non-medical masks to Albertans through our Drive-Thrus and restaurants in partnership with the provincial government.

  • Helped provide Canadians with accurate vaccine information by distributing over 53 million informational leaflets for vaccine campaigns across the country.

Addressing Food Insecurity

We will continue helping Canadians with meaningful partnerships and programs.

  • Our ambition is to provide approximately 1 million meals every year to Canadians in need, helping to address food insecurity in our communities.

  • And, we’ll continue our commitment to support our communities in times of crisis through our partnership with the Canadian Red Cross and other local community efforts supported by our independent franchisees.

McDonald’s has been opening our doors to communities across Canada since 1967 and, as we hope all these goals, ambitions, and actions show, we’re just getting started.
